Ebenezer Art

When I was a kid and we sang the hymn "Come Thou Fount of Every Blessing," and we came to the line, "here I raise my ebenezer..." I thought an ebenezer was something you raised in your hand, like a flag or a glass you raised in a toast. Turns out it was a stone - I would imagine a biggish one - that would be a reminder to the Israelites that it was the Lord who had helped them thus far. The word means, "Stone of Help." You read about this in 1 Samuel 7:12. It was to be a visual, tangible reminder of an invisible, spiritual truth. And so I have found myself echoing God's creative idea by making artworks to leave here and there where I see them often that remind me of some spiritual truth that the Lord has shown me Here are some I've done for myself or for others. I call this "Ebenezer Art."

If God thought it was a good idea to put visuals in our path to remind us of Him, it's probably a good idea!
