The foundation of everything we do is desire. What do you (really, really) want? We must learn to take that to the Lord.
God has designed us so that every thing we desire is satisfied in Him.
Every emotion I experience can be explained by how the desires of my heart have been satisfied or not. Therefore, examining my emotions is a great tool. For example, a friend read in a blog the challenge to wear the same 3 outfits of clothing for a month. Her immediate response was "I could never do that!" But then she stopped to ask herself "Why not?" It led her to realize some deep desires for people pleasing and the esteem of men (or women) that she had not seen before in herself. To wear more than three outfits a month is not sinful, but the tool of examining her desires helped her to see a tendency in herself that might lead to sin somewhere else.
When I'm honest about what I desire to be, to do, and to have, does it line up with what God wants me to be, to do, and to have?
